Sooo The Adventure Begins
Greetings from cloudy, chilly Newark, NJ! Yes, that's where we're at. Let me go back a few hours. Our journey began last evening as we arrived at little sister's house, we were all packed up, our house was closed down, the weather forecast was good, so we're all set, we set the alarms for 3:30 a.m. We stop at Sheetz's on the way to Harrisburg Int. for our free coffees and all is looking good. Flight is on schedule, check in goes fine, we board our little 50 passenger airplane. They taxi down the runway and the pilot tells us that since this is the first flight out of the day they just have to do a little safety check, will just take about 5 minutes, well 10 mins. later he comes on and says utoh, a little warning light came on and we have to go back and let the mechanic check it out (well he said something like that). Now this is 6:30a.m. New Years morning and guess what, the mechanic is home in bed, so you might as well exit the plane and wait till we get this problem fixed. So now we begin to worry, we have a connecting flight to catch in Newark, which leaves at 9:15 a.m. People on the plane are not happy. Everyone has a connecting flight to catch, so as soon as we exit the plane they're lining up to try to reschedule (Doug is at the end of this line and never does make it to the service desk) We do not have our cell phone with us so are wondering how we're going to let Cory know that we could miss the flight. A nice man offers Doug the use of his phone and we're able to get in touch with Linda who calls Cory. They finally tell us to reboard, it is now 8:30, this is not looking so good for us. We touch down in Newark at 9:20, yep there went our flight. They direct us to customer service. Is there any other flight out today? Sorry, nope, but we'll get you on the next flight tomorrow morning. Here, visions of sleeping in the airport terminal are running through our minds, but then the nice man says "we'll take care of you". So here we are in the Ramada Hotel with $60 in food vouchers, well not such a bad deal. So Cory will pick us up tomorrow at the airport which works out just as well for him. He bought a 1999 Toyota Camry for us last week from a Brother who lives in Sosua, so tomorrow he'll be able to finish up some legal paperwork for the car and then pick us up at the airport, so all is well. Next post will be from El Estrecho, Dominican Republic (well we hope so!) Let the Adventure Begin!

I'm not surprised to read about your flight. After all it's Harrisburg. Seems to always happen. Just glad you were taken care of and it suits Cory too. Have a safe flight and we'll anxiously wait your next post.
ReplyDeleteCan you eat $60 worth of food in such a short time?
ReplyDeleteWere talking Doug here! I'm sure he can take care of the $ 60.00 worth of food. I just hope you get some,Deb!
ReplyDeleteYikes...memories of missed flights are running through my mind. Glad to hear they took care of you. Let us know when you are safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it OK if a day late. A 1999 Toyota, wow, you are living high now, mine's a '95. I was real surprised about the coffee stop - I know how much Doug loves the smell of coffee in the car, especially first thing in the morning. Have a really nice time and give the young'ns hugs for me.
ReplyDeleteOh well,,,at least it isn't a week vacation and you are a day late. That would be annoying, but one day out of 2 1/2 months and $60.00 in free food...I'd say that isn't too bad! Have fun!
